Frogger, a wonderfully sweet Jack Russell Terrier, has a new lease on life after sustaining severe injuries from an act of intense cruelty. His story began in 2013 when a member of Doggie Protective Services happened upon a gruesome discovery on a busy interstate highway in California.
The small dog was riding comfortably in the car with his owner when he was abruptly thrown from the speeding car. Abandoned, injured, and scared the small dog lay in a fetal position along the highway – awaiting certain death. Luckily the passersby spotted the animal and he managed to avoid getting hit until he was ultimately rescued by the guardian angel from Doggie Protective Services.
He was immediately taken to an area veterinarian for care and was given the grim diagnosis of a broken back as well as other more minor injuries. With the urgent treatment including restorative back surgery, constant IVs full of pain medication, and a healthy dose of antibiotics the pup was making a substantial recovery. After a few weeks Frogger was even given a better prognosis of being able to one day walk without the supportive brace.
The staggering veterinary bills mounted well over $10,000 despite reduced fees from the attending staff members. Well wishers of human and canine persuasion sent cards, donations, and photographs to support the veterinary staff and the full recovery of Frogger.
