ISIS has recently released a short video depicting the trial and stoning of a Syrian woman accused of adultery. This murderous “court” included a cleric, a group of miscellaneous men, and her own father.
The proceedings commence with the cleric angrily ranting at the woman and accusing her of adultery. She is then sentenced to death and to be ‘content and happy’ about it because her execution has been ordered by God.
Before her execution is carried out, the woman is seen begging her father for forgiveness. He at first completely ignores her. However, he is ordered to respond, but his response is no less cold. “Don’t call me father,” he replies. She asks him to pray for her.
He openly spurns her further pleas before giving the order to begin the murderous proceedings. He is aided in tying a rope around her neck and leading her to a pit. Here the stoning begins. After several minutes of the stony assault, there is a pause. Then the father steps forward with a large stone to end his daughter’s life. The video ends before this final deadly act.
That same day a rare stoning of an adulterous man in Idib province was also depicted. This is the first recorded stoning of a man since Syria began civil war in 2011.
