A father and son hoping to hone their firearm skills were turned away at a gun range in Hot Springs, Arkansas because they were brown skinned and suspected of being Muslim. During the course of filling out paperwork, the pair were questioned about their backgrounds and religion, informed that the Gun Cave in Hot Springs, Arkansas was a “Muslim-free” shooting range, and if they did not like this rule the pair should leave.
The son tried to explain to the woman at the counter that they were not Muslim, but rather South Asians, that he was born in the U.S. and had lived in Hot Springs for 10 years before going off to college.
Furthermore, he explained to the woman that he and his father had enjoyed time together at the shooting range under the previous owners. At some point in the conversation, the woman suddenly halted the paperwork and asked the pair to leave or she would call police.
The owner, Jan Morgan, defends her policy after studying verses in the Quran commanding violence against non-Muslims. In a posting on her website, she admits she has no way to determine which Muslims are violent from those who are not and has decided to, out of caution, ban all Muslims from her range. When the Arkansas Times tried to reach her for comment, they received a hang up.
