Becky Ketarkus is an exceptional woman. She and her husband have adopted ten children from different places around the world and offer them unconditional love. Some the children have special needs which the family addresses to the best of their ability.

In the case of their daughter Poppy, the physical condition is one she will have to manage. Poppy was born in China with a tumor in one eye. While the tissue growth was not malignant, she was abandoned. Authorities believe the shame of having a daughter with a physical malady contributed to her parents turning their back on her.

That was not the case with the Ketarkus family. They adopted the baby, who by that time was 22 months old. They paid to have the tumor removed and eye socket tissue reconstructed, but it still left the child with an open eye socket. At this point, the only way to address the missing eye is to wear a fake eye which is applied much like a contact lens.

However, Poppy finds it uncomfortable to wear. Thus far, the Ketarkus’ have paid for a dozen such eyes with neither of them being comfortable enough for Poppy to wear constantly. When it becomes uncomfortable, the child removes the eye. This happened to be the case at a recent soccer game for one of their children. A woman seated close to Poppy witnessed what she thought was the child pulling out her eye.

Naturally, she exasperated aloud. Mrs. Ketarkus was offended that the woman did not apologize after learning what the situation entailed. Mrs. Ketarkus went on to explain in a social network post that she was never put off by Poppy’s appearance. Instead, she embraced the brave little girl with a spirit of pure love.
