Most people are not familiar with this archipelago, but Seychelles is a scattered group of islands somewhere in the Indian Ocean. Considering where it is at on the globe, it comes as no surprise that there are many huge tortoises living on some of the islands.
When the explorer, Paul Rose, began looking around on an island, he came across two tortoises. What he saw, though, was completely unexpected. The reptiles were mating! Needless to say, when the male tortoise noticed the adventurer, he was not very pleased, to say the least. He began to try to chase Paul Rose away, but what happened afterwards was hilarious!
Undeterred by the massive shell upon his back, Mister Tortoise continued to go after Rose. As we all know, though, tortoises are notoriously slow, and he was not able to catch up to the human who had so rudely interrupted his love-making.
Even so, I can only imagine how intimidated Paul must have been. Regardless of how slow the tortoise was, he still must have been imposing. After all, he probably weighs a thousand pounds, and he was really angry. If Mr. Tortoise had somehow been able to move faster, this whole incident would have been very different. Instead of a comedy, it might have been a horror story!
Fortunately, though, Paul escaped. Even better, the tortoise was able to go back to his mate, hopefully making a bunch of little tortoise babies. The morale of this story is that you should always knock first!
