The subject of immigration reform has been debated by both political parties for decades. Millions of people are in the United States illegally. Since the elections ended and the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, they have tried hard to wield their power over President Barack Obama. Obama said that he would hold an address to release information regarding how he would take action to handle immigration reform.
This sent many politicians, notably Ted Cruz and John Boehner into a tailspin. Boehner decided to air his frustrations with Obama via a tweet and said that he was offering unilateral amnesty to illegal immigrants while Cruz compared Obama to Cicero and linked a Youtube video to his post about it.
Fox News is known for its over the top antics when it comes to criticizing President Obama. However, Megyn Kelly of Fox News’s The Kelly File actually distanced herself from calling the plan amnesty.
She explained that Obama was well within his rights to take executive action and that Republicans were intentionally using the term amnesty because they want to create mayhem so that voters are angry with Obama. Republicans want to rally their base so that they can get control of the White House in 2016. By taking this action and calling a plan amnesty when it is not, they will continue to try to push their agenda for as long as they possibly can.
