A woman travelling by car along a busy stretch of highway in Mexico was not about to let a dog laying by the side of the road sustain more injuries from the fast-moving traffic. Vero Salgado performed a one-woman rescue operation that most people consider unthinkable when she carefully managed to run across four lanes of traffic without getting hit herself in order to attend to the injured animal, who appeared to be a stray shepherd mix dog.
Although the dog initially tried to limp away from her, she patiently sat down near the frightened animal, all the while coaxing him to come closer to her so she could get her belt around him to serve as a temporary leash.
Once she was able to corral the dog, Salgado gently lifted him up and again waited patiently until the two of them were able to run across four lanes of traffic back to her vehicle, where one of her passengers had been recording her historic rescue on camera.
She then got into the back seat of her vehicle, calmly reassuring the injured dog that he was okay, and her friend was able to drive off to get the animal some needed medical assistance at the local veterinary office. The as yet unnamed dog is reportedly on the mend and doing well, thanks to Vero Salgado risking her own life to save his.
