Los Angeles, California – The charitable group Hope For Paws does exactly what their name implies: give rescues a chance at a happy life with humans. It’s a labor of love to be sure, but not every dog recognizes the good intentions of the organization’s workers. At times, the dogs can be so abused by people or so alienated from mankind they respond aggressively in an effort to defend themselves. In one such case, a dog had been taking up shelter in the parking lot of a shopping center. No one had been able to capture it.
Eldad Hagar of Hope for Paws decided it was best to sneak up on the dog while it slept. It isn’t something that’s recommended because the dog is sure to defend itself when startled. However, Hagar made the command decision to capture it while it slept. Sure enough, the dog was startled. Predictably, the dog awakes from its sleep barking and attempting to bite Hagar.
However, as Hagar and a female co-worker approach the dog and speak in gentle tones to it, the dog’s whole demeanor changes. Within seconds, the angry display of self-defense and peeled teeth disappear. It becomes meek as they place a dog collar on it and take it to the shelter.
The grey and white shaggy terrier mix seemingly enjoys being washed. What emerges is a happy loving dog that eventually gets placed inside a good home. It underscores the blessing dogs can be when given a second chance, or, better said, a fair chance.
