President Obama announced on Thursday that his administration has reached the target of 6 million Americans enrolled in Obamacare, a goal estimated by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
One million Americans enrolled in less than 2 weeks in an effort to sign up before open enrollment ended March 31st. The White House anticipated the big surge of enrollment, as Americans typically wait until the last minute.
There will be a few more weeks for people to sign up. Due to some technical difficulties, some will have the opportunity to complete their enrollment in April.
Techincal problems were all too familiar during Bush administration’s push to enroll seniors in Medicare Part D. The prescription drug program is often compared to Obamacare due to the initial website problems. But just as that program is now considered a success, so too will be the Obamacare health coverage.
