Everest Wilhelmsen is a conservative militia leader is trying to get rid of President Obama again. You may remember Wilhelmsen from last November, when he stated that the Constitution gave him the right to murder Obama.
He claimed that the Second Amendment gave him the right as the President was “levying war on the United States and aiding and comforting our foreign enemies.” The post was later removed, but Wilhelmsen is back with further plans to oust Obama, one way or another.
This time around, Wilhelmsen is offering cash remuneration for the kidnapping and “removal” of the President from office. He is currently offering over one hundred thousand dollars towards that goal. The conservative militia leader is claiming that Barack Obama is not eligible to hold the office of President because his father’s citizenship disqualifies him.
Wilhelmsen believes that a natural born citizen can not have a foreign born parent. Legally speaking, he is very much in the wrong. The clause to the Constitution he quotes does say that the President must be a natural born citizen, but his definition of natural born is in no way correct. A natural born citizen must have one parent who is a citizen of the United States.
In fact, the Naturalization Act of 1790 states that children of citizens born abroad are still natural born citizens. Even if Barack Obama had not been born in Hawaii, his mother’s citizenship would have ensured his legal right to be President of the United States.
