This device uses an infrared camera in order to see the heat signature that is left from a person touching the pin pad. The thermal signature on the pin pad even allows for a thief to see the order of the code as the heat slowly goes away. Not only is this device useful for stealing people’s pin code, but it can also be used for door entry systems.
This can allow for thieves to get into a home or office. In the video the mock-thief is able to steal a person’s pin code inside of a second while looking completely casual.
Luckily, there is a way for persons to prevent this from happening. This involves simply resting the rest of one’s fingers on other keys on the pin pad in order to obscure the code’s number and order.
The video goes on to tell persons that if they tell persons about this new technology and how to defeat it, thieves will probably decide that they do not want to use this method to steal person’s pin codes. This can result in the use of thermal imaging as a means of identity theft going away before it becomes a major issue.
