According to the September 28,2014 article Over 100,000 Sexually Explicit Photos Of Children Found On Arrested Archbishop’s Computer. Former Archbishop Josef Wesolowski was arrested last week. Surrounding an investigation by Vatican detectives that turned up over 100,000 images of young boys being forced into sexual intercourse with each other and adults were found on Wesolowski’s office computer and admittedly paid minors for sex.
Wesolowski headed churches in the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Costa Rica, Japan, Switzerland, India and Denmark. Vatican detectives have begun an investigation to see if Wesolowski had abused minors in his other parishes as well.
The former Archbishop is now under house arrest in the Collegio dei Penitenzieri. It was at the behest of Pope Francis that Wesolowski was arrested, according to the zero tolerance policy the Vatican has on Sexual crimes against children.
Vatican detectives are also seeking evidence regarding any assistance Wesolowski may have had in obtaining these children. They are also seeking information to see if he was part of a larger pedophile ring. Amidst all the allegations Wesolowski has become the most prominent Archbishop to be investigated for sexual abuse. If he is found guilty, he could face up to 12 years in prison.
