Ulster County, New York resident Rowan Kunz had a plan to build her dream home on a large piece of land, however due to circumstances beyond her control, her plans had to change. Tiny houses are popping up all over the United States as a viable option for home owners and Rowan decided to build her own tiny home that would keep her mortgage free, off-the-grid, and free to travel as she pleased.
Rowan settled on building her home in the area where she grew up, Hudson Valley, New York. She got started on her tiny home by first purchasing a 24-foot trailer which would serve as the foundation of the home.
From there, she learned how to use all the tools in her tool box and constructed most of the home herself. Using mostly natural materials, Rowan filled her tiny home with cedar, pine, and bamboo floors and walls.
Once the tiny home was completed, Rowan was left with a perfectly equipped kitchen, which includes a tiny wood-burning stove. Her bathroom consists of a composting toilet and a hand pump that will bring in the rain-collected water from another area of the home to supply the shower. Her bed is nestled above in a cozy loft space, which has plenty of storage room underneath. She even has a retractable deck outside where her cat is free to roam and she can relax.
Rowan is pleased with the final results of her tiny home. She says that there is plenty of livable space for just herself and she has more comforts than many others in the world have.
