After You Hear What This Tea-Partier Said, You’ll Want To Duct Tape Their Mouth Shut!

In the world of politics, the choice of which party and ideology to support would be very clear if either side truly behaved as poorly as the opposition claims they do. The reality is far from those partisan characterizations, but ideologues on both sides of the political aisle continue trying to stereotype each other using words and actions from select individuals.

The most recent example of this comes from the Left-wing site called “The DailyKos” which is reporting that conservatives (note the generalized use of the term) have a message for women which is to get married or get beat up.

An objective review of their article makes it clear that two key conservative voices Bradford Wilcox and Robin Fretwell Wilson cited one of the benefits to female safety comes from traditional marriage. Statistically speaking, married women stand the least likelihood of being abused or assaulted. While Wilson & Wilcox acknowledge that domestic abuse does occur, the larger threat of harm happens to single women. It was this point which was rephrased as a stereotype to promote a view that conservatives are biased against women. It bears mentioning that the GOP traditionally carries the married female vote which indicates the party has a message which resonates with women in committed relationships.

The real issue with the Left is Fretwell’s support of an Arizona law allowing businesses to be exempt from compliance with certain laws on religious grounds that has then distorting his position rather than arguing in objectively. The same was true of Wilson who authored a study concluding that children of same-sex relationships did not fare as well as those in traditional marriages.
