Robert Martin, a 54 year old resident of Lancaster, California, was recently captured on cell phone by a man who observed his horrifying abuse of a defenseless dog.
The footage has gone viral across the world, and has resulted in calls for stiff legal retribution against the man. On top of this, Martin was also recorded making vicious racial slurs, including the infamous “N word”, against Lindsey Cooks, the young African-American man who captured his vicious misdeeds on camera.
It seems that Martin suddenly began dragging the tiny dog by his leash, and then viciously slammed the animal, head first, into the concrete several times in succession. As of yet, there has been no word as to whether Martin was intoxicated during the incident. The local Lancaster police department is currently investigating the incident.
Indeed, Cook’s cell phone footage played a major role in getting Martin arrested shortly after his hideous crime. A major online petition has been started, with the aim of getting justice for the defenseless dog. The petition calls for the “maximum punishment” for Martin. This punishment would very likely include such elements as jail time, heavy fines, enforced therapy, community service, and a restraining order on his contact with animals.
Whatever the outcome may be, it is certain that there is less and less tolerance for this sort of vicious behavior against animals. It is hoped that support for the online petition may play a major role in getting such incidents publicized and dealt with in a civilized and timely manner.
