The Ku Klux Klan appears to have messed the wrong woman this time, when they targeted Conover Kennard. In response to a Klan member harassing Ms. Kennard, the group incurred the wrath of a member of the web activist group Anonymous. The Klan belatedly learned that they picked the wrong fight when several Klan websites were brought to their knees.
Ms. Kenard is a former actress, model and widow of Pretenders founding bassist Peter Farndon. Today she runs the politically liberal website and blog FreakOutNation. Her outspoken and blunt opinions on matters such as gun control, immigration, gay and lesbian issues and police brutality often attract the ire of right wingers looking to harass her. One particular individual who seems to have an obsession with cyber stalking Ms. Kennard goes by the name of “Thomas Klan.” This Klancharacter regularly attacks Ms. Kennard with barrages of “Heil Hitler” posts, and has even created fake and utterly derogatory twitter accounts of Kennard.
As it happens, Kennard is friends with various members of Anonymous. The loosely organized collective of hackers usually targets the websites of governments, corporations or other large groups that cross their sights. It also usually coordinates its actions in relation to well publicized issues of the day. This time, however, it was personal. An Anonymous member going by the name of “Amped Attacks” decided to start taking down Klan websites, and did not hesitate in mockingly informing Mr. Klan who was responsible.
Klan publicly explained he was being cyber attacked by posting to the KKK site he frequents, a site which, Amped Attacks promptly crashed as well. Members of Anonymous have clashed with the Klan before, taking down several websites and previously taking over the group’s Twitter account. The Klan learned the hard way that they should be more choosy in whom they pick their fight with… Or just disgracefully disband the whole KKK operation altogether and shamefully burn your cloaks so we can put that horrible institution behind us as a rash of America’s aging ass.
