Dog is hit by car. Man drives 200 miles. Man finds dog wedged in front bumper. Man adopts dog.

Such is the improbable series of events of a motorist, surname Zhang, driving in the Hunan province of China from Feng to Loudi on March 26, 2015. Early in his trip, Zhang had struck a dog crossing the middle of the road. “I was driving pretty quickly at the time so when I hit the dog, I thought it had either died or run away, so I didn’t get out of the car to check,” said Zhang.

Approximately 200 miles later, Zhang heard a bark coming from the front of his car. He pulled over, bent down, and discovered a tawny, frightened animal stuck between the front bumper and the radiator.

Being without tools to dislodge the dog, Zhang had no choice to but continue another 48 miles to a veterinarian in the city of Loudi. There, surprised vets removed the dog, which had suffered only a minor wound from his VIP seat in a cross-country road trip.

Zhang decided to adopt the animal as his pet. “It made me feel that life is so precious,” he commented. “I think we were destined to meet.” Here’s hoping they enjoy many road trips in the future – sitting side by side.
