For “Constitutional Experts,” the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association seems to have missed the part of the American educational process that includes understanding the Constitution. Or maybe certain US sheriffs with an “above-the-law” mentality have developed a touch of dementia when it comes to the checks and balances approach to American government.
Either way, this minuscule and extreme right-wing group, led by two sheriffs, assembled outside the White House and called for the lynching of the so-called traitorous President of the United States. Vulgar language and suggestions of nefarious use of a wood chipper jarred with prayers for guidance.
Ironic that a group of “loyal” Americans claiming to be the last line of defense against American infiltration should use their right of free speech to make the kind of threatening and insurrectionist threats that might reasonably have called for intervention from the President’s Secret Service.
Leader Sheriff Mack led by example, providing protesters with hors-d’oevres and what must have been a heartwarming sense of pride in his followers who were, after all, “trying to take care of something on their own.” He took no credit for the gathering, but his attitude of non-responsibility shows a certain disingenuousness. Hugging and handshaking between protesters and Mack no doubt created an atmosphere of team building camaraderie appropriate to any lynch mob.
