The video opens with Breeze, a one week old orphan foal, sleeping soundly in the lap of a giant tan teddy bear. Breeze was found motherless and wandering Dartmoor National Park trying to suckle off of other mares.
When Breeze was brought to the neighboring equine sanctuary he was severely dehydrated and in a state of shock from losing his mother.
The news video shows Breeze now, a couple of days after rescue, and he is doing much better as evidenced by standing and trying to nuzzle with Tracy one of the grooms taking care of him. For the first few days Breeze did require twenty-four hour care and a round of antibiotics from the veterinarian as he did not receive his mothers first milk containing the protective antibodies needed to fight infections.
Breeze now sleeps with the giant teddy bear at night to help simulate the warmth and attention he would have received from his mother. Breeze is now happier and alert with his teddy bear surrogate mother and the care he is receiving. Breeze will continue to be monitored by the equine sanctuary and is expected to make a full recovery with the help of his teddy bear surrogate mother.
