Women have been giving birth to babies for thousands of years. What goes on inside the womb is still much of a mystery.

Every year thousands of babies are born prematurely. It can be heartbreaking to watch such small babies in a fragile state between life and death. One amazing story from 1995 involves a set of twins that were born in the state of Massachusetts. They were very tiny at birth and weighed less than two pounds.

The twins who are called Kyrie and Brielle had a rough start. Kyrie was the healthier of the girls while Brielle struggled a great deal. She had a heartbeat that would not stabilize. Doctors feared that she would not survive. A quick thinking nurse decided to take action and put the girls in the same incubator.

Within a few minutes, Kyrie decide to take her little arm and wrap it around her baby sister. Suddenly, the nurses and doctors saw with amazement that Brielle’s heart rate improved and she was able to increase her temperature to the appropriate level.

The hug between the girls was actually captured in an incredible photograph, Now, almost two decades later, the medical world is still benefiting from this story. Now, premature babies are allowed to have direct contact with their parents.

This is a form of treatment. The “Rescue Hug” that these two beautiful girls started has changed lives across the world. Brielle owes her life to Kyrie and many other babies will as well for years to come.
