High school students Brayden Carpenter and Allie Allen recently went to the senior Homecoming dance with matching hairstyles.
Allen and Carpenter have known each other since sixth grade, and Allen was just 14 when she was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer. At first, her cancer responded to treatment, but it recently resurfaced and Allen is currently being treated with cranial spinal radiation.
One of the side effects of her treatment, among many others, is hair loss. Allen says that she was devastated when her hair started falling out. She said shaving her head was hard for her to do, but she isn’t stressing over it anymore.
When Carpenter asked Allen to be his date for Homecoming, she had no idea he would show up with a shaved head to match hers. Carpenter says that he wanted to shave his head so that Allen would feel more confident at the dance.
Things haven’t been easy for Allen and her family lately. Along with her cancer diagnosis, Allen’s mother, Debbie, is being treated for stage three breast cancer.
The Allen family has a GoFundMe page, which they update frequently in order to share information about Allie and her mother’s conditions.
Although she may be ill, Allen has stayed busy at school. She makes a point to attend each football game, and even gives pep talks to friends from her hospital bed.
All of Allen’s strength and enthusiasm during such a difficult time earned her the title of “Homecoming Princess” during the Homecoming dance.
