The driver of a crowded bus in Chile, South America got up from his seat in a symbolic gesture when saw that a woman holding a baby was standing because none of the passengers had the courtesy to give up their seat so the mother could sit down with her child.
The driver’s action provoked the intended reaction from the crowd of passengers. Once the driver of the bus stood up, gestured to his own seat and said something in regards to the woman having her baby with her that a woman in the back of the bus got up and offered her seat to the mother and child. The woman with the baby then graciously accepted the seat.
Even though most people have frantic schedules with a constant list of “to do” thing running through their heads to distract them from what is going on around them, that is not a reason to forget about common courtesy.
While self-absorbed actions are not always an intentional selfish or heartless act, but often just a lack of awareness, looking out for others is something everyone could make a little more effort towards.
The actions of one concerned bus driver should serve as a reminder to everyone to be aware of their situation and act in a polite, courteous and responsible manner whenever the occasion to help someone presents itself. For the bus driver, reminding everyone to help another was more important than getting his oblivious passengers to their final destination.
