All of it caught on camera: a twenty-year-old bull found himself in some deep water, and unable to move, or more importantly, unable to get himself out. The bull was found fighting for his life, at the Palm River Retention Pond and was lying on its side, when Michael Collins found him and called 911 for help.
Incredulously, the bull’s life was saved by a brave deputy from Hillsboro County, Christina Hamen. The deputy saw that the bulls head was disappearing underneath the water for long periods of time and she knew she had to jump in to save him or he would surely die of drowning. The deputy used her own strength to hold the weight of the bulls head above water for over three hours, with the possibility of alligators lurking in the water.
Thankfully she had deputies standing by with their AR-15 rifles, just in case an alligator decided to make an appearance. Crews were finally able to pull the bull out of the water and onto the grassy hillside where he was safe.
The owner of this lucky bull was happy and surprised that deputy Hamen was able to lift the bulls head above water for three hours, saying it weighs, “several hundred pounds.” After all of these years the bulls owner finally gave him a name, Lucky.
