Gloria Steinem, the outspoken activist who’s built a career on defending women’s rights, has taken issue with Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina’s criticism of Planned Parenthood. The organization has gotten a lot of attention recently since the GOP tried to shut it down, and the legal battles that have been all over the media.
The videotapes surfaced over the summer that allegedly provided evidence that the company was harvesting fetuses for their organs to then sell. Fiorina made graphic reference to one of these videos during the second Republican debate.
It was this reference that prompted Steinem’s response. Steinem took to social media and proclaim that most of Fiorina’s statements about Planned Parenthood were false. She even went so far as to claim that Fiorina would be more detrimental than Sarah Palin. A bold and frightening statement.
None of this is likely to sway most conservative voters, but Steinem’s post has received a great deal of attention. No doubt she will continue to make her voice heard throughout the election process -which is good news. We need a voice of reason this term.
