Cold and flu season is perhaps the worst time of the year. It seems like everyone is sick as they spend more time indoors with each other, causing germs to spread a little easier. There are a few over the counter remedies that you can get, or you could make a remedy at home that will do the same thing, if not more, for the body.
One of the benefits of making your own remedies for a cold or flu is that you can control the flavors. All you need are a few ingredients to get started. There is one sweet that you can make that soothes a sore throat and acts as a natural antioxidant. This makes it hard for germs to multiply.
Add one cup of sugar to a pot on a stove. You also want to add half a cup of water. Add one tablespoon of lemon to the sugar water. This has a high content of Vitamin C. Use about a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of ginger. These items can be used to soothe a sore throat and to prevent coughing. When the ingredients begin to simmer and boil, you want to leave it on a low heat for about 15 minutes. Keep stirring so the mixture won’t stick.
The product should be thick and dark, having a consistency like syrup. You can put the mixture in a bottle and take a teaspoon a day or when you are sick, or you can make small circles on parchment paper that you can use as a lozenge.
