VIDEO: They Filled A Vase With Oil, Then Dropped Alka Selter In It. Seconds Later, WOW!

This article contains a paragraph of text and a BuzzFeed video demonstrating several interesting, but fairly simple experiments one can do by themselves, or with their children.

The video displays experiments involving simple chemical reactions such as using vinegar to dissolve shells from eggs, which shows the calcium carbonate in an eggshell reacting with vinegar. It provides the ingredients required to make a home-made bouncy ball – Borax, glue, and corn starch, but tells the watcher to experiment with the ratios of ingredients on their own, to perfect the ball’s bounciness.

An “Ivory Soap Souffle” can be made in a microwave by placing a bar of Ivory Soap on a paper towel and heating it on high for two minutes. The soap will increase in volume, proving that, “as the temperature of a gas increases, so does the volume”.

There is also the simple, yet fun experiment of adding food coloring to the water in a flower’s vase, changing the the color of the flower’s petals within hours. “Make sound visual” simply by combining corn starch and water in a bowl, dumping it onto a cookie sheet, and placing it on top of a speaker with lots of bass. The mixture will ripple and move in time to the music.

Dropping food coloring onto the tray will make it extra eye catching.
