When Jennifer Rodgers was pulled over by the country sheriff for a traffic violation on her way home from work, she was undoubtedly nervous – but not as nervous as her boyfriend Chad Defrates who was secretly waiting in the cop car.
Jennifer didn’t expect to see Chad there at all. A Specialist in the US Army, he had returned from fighting overseas and arranged the surprise visit with Christian County Sheriff Bob Kinderman. She had no idea Chad had returned, let alone that he sat in the car just behind hers at the curb.
The sheriff asked her to step out of the vehicle, and while her back was turned Chad swiftly moved in behind her with a CD player playing their favorite song and tapped her on the shoulder. They tearfully embraced and moments later he got down on one knee and proposed.
He was more nervous while pulling off the proposal than while being shot at in combat. She managed to say yes through her tears. Cars going by honked their approval while he was on bended knee. He stood, threw both fists in the air with a triumphant “Woo!” and onlookers who’d gathered nearby responded with cheers.
