McDonald’s is offering some heartwarming advice for their employees who are struggling this holiday season. On their website, McResource Line, they suggest “Selling some of your unwanted possessions on eBay or Craigslist could bring in some quick cash.”
Some other advice they give for “Digging Out From Holiday Debt” include breaking apart food at meals which will help you eat less and still feel full. The company also offers to help workers apply for food stamps.
In recent months, McDonald’s offered their low wage workers, some of the most underpaid workers in the country, some other caring advice. They suggested a sample budget for their “team members” who earn on average, $7.75 per hour. In the budget, they tell workers that they shouldn’t waste their money on expenses like heating bills, and they calculated a $600 monthly rent. In New York City, that rent figure is laughable.
Many of the underpaid employees have had walk-outs, protests and strikes demanding a living wage. But McDonald’s advice? “Quit complaining,” their website suggests. “Stress hormones levels rise by 15% after 10 minutes of complaining.”
