New York City, New York – Pro-life supporters are using the tragedy of Nicole “Nikki” Kelly as an object lesson in the culture of disposable life which they claim abortion creates. Regardless of how a person comes down on the politics and morality of abortion, the one thing that can’t be disputed is that Mrs. Kelly took the life of her 11-month-old son Kiam.
Mrs. Kelly is a single-mother who was renting a room for her and her infant son. This past Sunday, she swaddled him in a white sheet so tight that he choked to death. Following his murder, she dressed him up in a nice white outfit and posted messages to her Facebook account about missing him terribly and failing in her duty to protect him.
Not long afterwards, the boy’s father arrived with the intention of taking mother and son to the hospital. It is unclear what he had been told by Mrs. Kelly nor is it certain he was aware that his son was dead. Upon being interrogated by police officers, Kelly confessed to killing her son stating that she no longer wanted him in her life. Obviously, there were multiple ways of handling the situation including putting him up for adoption.
She claims she snapped. She is being charged with murder and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. She appeared in court this past Wednesday, but it is not clear what the outcome was. Mrs. Kelly is currently undergoing a psych evaluation at Elmhurst Hospital.
