Out of the mouths of babes – who would have thought that when an 8-year-old promised his father that he would buy him his dream car when he grew up that it would actually happen? But that is just what happened and his father, Roger King, was absolutely speechless.
Twenty-three years ago, when Mike King was 8 years old, he promised to buy his father Roger his dream car – a 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air. Roger was touched by the idea but did not give it too much thought after. But after years of saving up for it, Mike bought the ’57 Chevy two years ago and kept it a secret for his father’s 57th birthday.
Mike King always knew that the ’57 Bel-Air was his father’s dream car. But Roger was one of seven children in a middle-class family so such luxuries were always outside the reach of their resources. But the younger King always believed his father deserved the car and vowed to make his dream come true.
A video uploaded by the family to Youtube shows the car’s reveal. Dad Roger was clearly choked up by the gesture. He was speechless for a few moments, then kissed the car and got behind the wheel. Never underestimate the power of a childhood promise!
