In November 2014, Heather Whitten’s son was constantly vomiting and had diarrhea. Her husband decided to take their son into the shower to soothe him. Heather was touched by her husband’s actions and decided to take a picture of her husband and son. She posted the photo online, but she had no idea she was going to get backlash for it.
Not only did Heather receive rude comments, but one person reported the photo to authorities. The police stated that they were not going to take any action against the mother. However, an investigator decided to investigate the case more. Heather stated that the investigator tried to portray her as an immodest and abusive mother. She also stated that the only reason the investigator interrogated her was because she posted the image online.
Facebook also removed the photo because they stated that it violated their policies. Heather tried to repost the photo, but Facebook removed it again. Heather will appear in court on Febraury 3, 2017. She will have the opportunity to tell her side of the story in court. If Heather is convicted, then she will be added to the Arizona Central Registry for the next 25 year. This means that she will not be able to adopt or foster children.
Heather has started a Gofundme to pay for her legal fees. She has managed to raise $5,500.
