Dogs might love getting to play outside, but leaving a dog outdoors in harsh weather is not safe for the animal. One little pit bull was constantly chained in the backyard by her owners, who often forgot to feed and care for her. Though her life started out sadly, this young puppy ended up with a happy life after she was saved through the intervention of some caring neighbors.
When the dog was chained up outside by her owners, she was getting weaker and weaker. In the freezing cold, without much to drink, she seemed unlikely to survive. The pit bull’s situation was so dire that vultures began to swoop around her. Vultures do not eat living animals, so they tend to spot weak creatures and follow them until they die. Some kind neighbors noticed that this was happening, and they correctly assumed that the dog was near death. They ended up calling animal control, who took the dog from neglectful owners.
The pit bull turned out to be an 8 month old female who was far to small and weak to be outside in the winter. When she was rescued, she was dirty, starving, and weak. However, she quickly began to gain weight and grow into an adorable dog once she found people to care for her. The pit bull was named Lilo, and she was fostered by a pit bull group that specializes in caring for these often mistreated dogs.
Eventually, Lilo was adopted by Keana Lynch and Travis Henley. At first, the couple noticed that Lilo was extremely nervous, and she was completely unused to being indoors. The loving home and the warm fluffy bed were better than Lilo had ever imagined, and she quickly became confident and happy in her new home.
Instead of being ignored and left outdoors, Lilo got cuddles and playtime whenever she wanted. In her new family, there are also two other dogs to play with. Lilo has settled into her new home now, and she does not even seem to remember the harsh conditions that she used to live in. With new playmates, Lilo now loves going outside whenever the temperature is nice.
Fortunately, Lilo was rescued at a young enough age that she is not permanently scarred from mistreatment. Other pit bulls are not so lucky. This breed is cheerful and friendly, but they are often mistreated by people who want tough, fighting dogs. Pit bulls that are not rescued until they are older often end up having trouble adjusting to kind humans and good treatment.
