Why did Pope Francis sneak out of the Vatican?

Do you need another reason to love Pope Francis? Guards have confirmed that he has been sneaking out at night to meet with homeless people to help them. The Huffington Post writes, “Swiss guards confirmed that the pope has ventured out at night, dressed as a regular priest, to meet with homeless men and women.”

The Pope ventures out at night in a modest approach to serve the people, as opposed to Pope Benedict XVI, who wore gold embroidered robes on his elaborate golden throne.

The Pope’s decision to help in such a humble way is awe inspiring, but perhaps he’s following another verse form the Bible that states, When you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others.” Instead, give discreetly, “Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Pope Francis invited almost 200 homeless individuals to join him for dinner at the Vatican a few months after assuming the papacy. In a biblical sense, the Pope is following Mathew 25:40 where Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
