Which Retail Stores Are Forcing Workers To Not Celebrate Thanksgiving

Black Friday isn’t soon enough for retailers to start the holiday offers. This year, Best Buy joins the list of stores that will open on Thanksgiving, welcoming shoppers at 6 p.m. November 28th.

Kmart has went the furthest by opening its doors at 6 A.M. on Thanksgiving, but many others are trying to follow suit. These stores all claim that workers are not forced to come in on Thanksgiving. However, workers from Kmart have posted photos of warning signs stating there will be no granted requests to take the day off.

Workers at these chains may really have to work, but mostly because they can’t afford to take time off. Once source claims that “more than 8 million people work part-time involuntarily either because they can’t find a full-time job or their employer won’t give them more hours.” Last year, Kmart opened on Thanksgiving but closed a few hours early to let workers spend time with family, but not this year.

Nearly one in four works cannot take vacation or holiday days off, and the United States is the only country that won’t guarantee vacation time.
