When it comes to miracles that happen every day, one of the greatest is the miracle of birth. Being able to witness nature in all its glory in this miracle is not a common occurrence for most people. However, the bystanders and onlookers at the Memphis Zoo got the unique opportunity to witness the birth of a giraffe.
The onlookers at the Memphis Zoo giraffe house were in for a surprise when Sarabi the giraffe delivered. The female giraffe was born without complication inside of the giraffe house.
Most newborn giraffes walk and get around within a few hours after birth. This young go getter was up and nursing in record time, much to the pleasure of the onlookers and causing excited optimism of the zoo staff to the strength and survival of the new calf.
Not only was the staff elated, but after the baby had been born, there was an elated round of applause from the viewing audience. It seems that all of those who witnessed this miraculous event were intuitively as excited and hopeful as the zoo staff itself. These lucky people who were in the right place at the right time were able to witness something that most people will never get to experience.
This unscheduled and unscripted event was well worth the cost of a ticket into the zoo that day. The following interaction between the newborn calf and mother Sarabi was a truly moving show that will not soon be forgotten by zoo visitors.
