One wedding ceremony took the audience by surprise. It seemed germane enough when the bride and groom were on the stand at a local church ready to exchange their vows. The pastor then turned himself about and addressed the audience saying the phrase, “For the first time in history…” It was as this moment that the best man begins to hop on the stage with his right leg lifted up amid a song with a thunderous beat.
Within seconds, the bride, groom, groomsmen, bridesmaids and many in the audience begin dancing. However, it is notable that while most people were dancing in an ordinary way, the best man had his arms to his sides moving them almost as if his body were rag doll being shaken about.
The moves drew loud cheers from the audience. The bride got into the dancing as well despite the restrictions of her wedding gown.
Even the pastor took to dancing. Sometimes people think of doing something that everyone will remember them by, but this couple obviously did just that. Their pastor was in on the celebration and must have given his blessing otherwise they would not have had permission to do this in the sanctuary. While some may find the dance as not in harmony with a solemn marriage ceremony, it is a matter of opinion.
Many people, including African-Americans, find dance as a way to express their praise of God. As for the best man doing the unique dance, it is called “The Harlem Shake” and it is a lot harder to do than it looks.
