Most of us have been aboard a plane that, for one reason or the other is delayed. This plane was delayed for over five hours, and with the usual free drinks to placate the passengers, it could have had a rowdy ending. A flight attendant discovered that among the passengers was a barbershop quartet.
Most entertainers love attention, and this group was no different, but unlike some, they freely gave of their time and talents to, not only entertain the other passengers, but to make the delay an enjoyable one to boot.
Barbershop singers use no accompaniment, just a pitch pipe to set the key. With a little note from the pitch pipe the quartet took off when the plane couldn’t. It turns out that the barbershop quartet, Port City Sound, not only made the passengers happy, but also put in a good word for their home state of Maine. In today’s busy world, people are often too easily put out, to care about how others feel.
As these four men harmonized, passengers took out their cellphones to record the moment and the happiness brought out, and freely given. Certainly, most of us cannot break out in song at the drop of the hat, but, most of us can break out in a little light conversation to ease the awkwardness of an unexpected happening. The next time any of us are unexpectedly delayed, perhaps we should take a moment to think about these gentlemen, and how they gave of themselves and their talents to make others day a little happier.
