This video plays out in a hospital scene. A family consisting of father, mother, and young daughter walk into the waiting area. There are four seats in this waiting area, one of which is occupied by a man of an obviously different race than the family.
His skin is darker than that of the family’s and the family proceeds to continually glance at him as they arrange and rearrange themselves in the remaining three chairs. The empty seat in between the man and the family speaks volumes through the silence as the father stands to the other side of his wife and daughter.
A nurse enters and speaks. “The doctor would like to see you now” acknowledging the family as well as the man. The family hurriedly walks into the doctor’s office as to avoid the man of a different race, where they sit across from the doctor. The discriminated man stands in the entryway with his head down as the family questions the doctor.
The doctor proceeds with a smile and walks over to the man in the entryway and informs the family “This man is your daughter’s bone marrow donor.” The man smiles as well as the daughter while the parents remain in shock. What a beautiful moment amongst a series of silent discrimination. Judgement prevented this family from seeing the good that lied beneath this man’s appearance.
