Bill Maher appeared in an interview with Larry King and smugly baited the GOP to draw up articles of impeachment on President Obama regarding the Benghazi cover up or any other of the President’s crimes if in fact they did occur. By implication, he is suggesting the GOP is only conducting political posturing. However, while on the subject of implying matters, it bears noting that Maher is well-aware of the fact that articles of impeachment against President Obama would be seen by many on the left as racist oriented merely because it stems from the GOP.
It is Obama’s ethnicity that has largely shielded him from more scrutiny than he has received. That is as real a condition as is the other Obama cover ups and scandals. The GOP has struggled greatly with how to deal with Obama. For his part, the president has resorted to invoking the race card often when dealing with the GOP. Obviously, there are those in the GOP who do not care about the labels and would follow the adage, “Do what is right; let the consequence follow.”
Maher himself is as much caught up in the race issue as the GOP. He is no more embracing of African-Americans by virtue of having voted for Obama than the GOP is racist for having opposed him.
Nevertheless, there remain only two 2.5 years to the Obama presidency and if the upcoming mid-term elections trend the way they are currently going, Obama will have a largely lame duck session lasting two years. Maher suggested impeachment of Obama would draw out the Left-wing base. It is wishful thinking on his part to prevent the upcoming GOP landslide.
