Kids of all ages are curious in nature and have a thirst for learning. Often, hands on experiments, which do not seem to be educational at all, are the best ways to teach children.

Science projects are a fun way to teach your kids, while spending time with them. One of these great projects is a colorful milk experiment that is easy and does not require many ingredients or materials. This experiment delights kids by changing milk different colors right before their eyes.

You will only need whole milk, cotton swabs, dish soap, a plate, and food coloring. Children will get to watch the fat molecules break down in the milk when adding the dish soap. This process moves the food coloring around to create a colorful event. To conduct this experiment, you will first need to pour enough milk to completely cover the entire plate. Add one drop of each different food color in the middle of the plate.

It is suggested to use the basic colors of red, yellow, green, and blue. Before adding dish soap, touch the tip of a clean cotton swab to the middle of the plate. Ask your children to observe and note if anything happens. Then put a few drops of dish soap on the dry end of the cotton swab.

Now touch the middle of the plate with that end. You will observe the colors swirling together at the touch of the cotton swab. Have the children play around with it and experiment more with the cotton swab and the dish soap. By doing this fun experiment, children can learn the basic fundamentals of chemistry.
