It’s difficult to capture the complexity of a mother’s love for her child. It’s a love that lasts a lifetime, and is one of the most fundamental parts of most people’s lives. However, within the space of two minutes one can see a perfect encapsulation of true maternal love and devotion.
When 15 year old Laura Kamhuber went on The Voice Kids, the entire family came along to cheer her on. But it was clear that her performance of I Will Always Love You was meant for one person and one person only. She was clearly directing it to her mom.
And her mom’s reaction showed just how much it meant. The performance itself was amazing on a technical level. The judges had clearly decided in favor of her within seconds of her beginning to sing.
The piece itself is quite complex, and something that most adults would have difficulty with. She showed quick mastery of it though. And everyone was amazed by the depth and quality of song coming from the little girl. But what really moved viewers was her mother’s reaction.
If a mother’s love is difficult to encapsulate, than it was still done perfectly here. She quickly broke down in tears while listening to the devotion and gratitude of her daughter. The performance clearly moved her in a way that few outside of that position could fully understand. And yet, watching them one can feel in large part what they’re feeling. And that feeling is the purest of loves.
