Bakersfield, California – In a perfect world, everyone would marry the love of their lives and live in bliss despite the trials of life.
Sadly, the high rate of divorce in the United States shows that marriage is very hard work. It may seem like a foreign concept, but those who are deeply in love of the sort where the courtship and honeymoon never seems to wane never want to leave each other’s side. In those select marriages, the thought of facing the afterlife together is the desirable. Such was the case for Don and his bride Maxine Simpson. The couple married 62 years ago and by all accounts had a wonderful marriage.
However, Don suffered a fall that broke his hip. While he was being treated in the hospital, his health began to deteriorate rapidly.
It was at this time that his wife Maxine’s cancer began to spread. The family quickly realized that neither of them would be long for this world and made the arrangements for them to receive hospice care in the home of one of their children. The couple awoke to find themselves together.
They reached out with hands to comfort one another and reassure each other of their love. Their granddaughter inherently knew they must leave this world together. One morning, she was watching her grandmother sleeping and saw her take her last breath.
She made arrangements for her grandmother’s body to be removed and it took four hours for the body to be removed. Within minutes of her grandmother’s body leaving her grandfather’s side, he gave up the ghost. They passed away on the same day within hours of one another.
