VIDEO: Blind Circus Elephant Takes First Steps Since Being Rescued. This Made Me Cry!

Lucky is a beautiful baby elephant that was taken in by a circus and used as a prop during performances in Surin, Thailand. Each night, the young elephant’s developing eyes were subjected to the intense lighting of the stage. After repeated exposures, Lucky lost all of her sight.

The terrible conditions that Lucky lived in alarmed the workers of Elephant Nature Park in Mae Tang, Chiang Mai, Thailand. They seized Lucky from the circus and decided to bring her to the park, where she would never have to work again.

After processing Lucky, they realized they would have to drive slowly to avoid spooking her. The drive to freedom was approximately a little over twenty hours long. As they got closer, Lucky’s anxiousness began to fade, replaced with excitement.

Once they arrived, Lucky was apprehensive about leaving the truck. While she started to take her first steps off the truck, the other elephants began to approach her. Elephants are highly intelligent creatures and were aware that there was a newcomer amongst them.

Lucky was surrounded only a couple moments after taking her first steps into the park. The other elephants were incredibly accepting of her and began pouring the love on her. Lucky continues to live in peace at the Elephant Nature Park, where she will remain for the rest of her days.
