The President is currently searching for a new Surgeon-General, but one popular doctor has already taken his name out of the ring. Dr. Ben Carson recently came out and said that if he were offered the position, then he would not take the job.
Dr. Carson stated that one of the main reasons why he would not take the job from the president is that he has to work for someone he can trust. Carson is a retired neurosurgeon with a great reputation, but in recent months he has become nationally known as a conservative.
He has been running on the circuit on popular conservative talk shows and at several conservative events. This new statement will doubtlessly solidify his conservative credentials. This event took place on a show hosted by Hugh Hewitt. Mr. Hewitt followed up Carson’s original question and asked if he would step up if the president promised not to interfere with the Surgeon-General’s office. Carson stated that he would still refuse.
He believes that there are many officials in the government right now that cannot speak their mind because the president is inhibiting their ability to speak out. Dr. Carson apparently does not want to be silenced by the office. As we get closer to the midterm elections and to the Republican presidential primaries we are likely to hear more from Dr. Carson.
He is currently receiving a lot of attention from the conservative community and it is thought that he may be running for President. Only time will tell what Mr. Carson will do next.
