Usually fall and winter hair trends become darker hues such as caramel and auburn. But a new trend is fighting the dullness of winter with sweet, vibrant colors. The new, popular hair colors have been nicknamed the “macaron hair” after the cheerful, colorful French pastries.
Unlike the bright rainbow hair dyes, macaron hair relies on soft, muted pastels. Pale violet, soft pink, mint green, baby blue, peach, and silver are all being used to create beautifully multicolored hair. This trend is also being called “candy unicorn hair” to describe the magical shimmering effect of the colors.
The stylist responsible for this new trend is Shelley Gregory. This hairstylist was inspired by a famous macaron shop, Laduree, which is in New York City. According to Gregory:
“Everything from the crown molding and the way they display the macarons — it sticks with you. It’s kind of like Disneyland, where it’s magic. I wanted that feeling when you look at this hair.”
This whimsical hair dye trend definitely makes a statement. However, the amount of bleaching and dye needed to achieve these colors makes it a look that only the dedicated can achieve. Many people feel that all the work is worth it, since macaron hair looks magical whether it is left loose and simple or braided into elaborate updos.
