Joseph Farah, age 59, has enjoyed a colorful life. During his youth in the 1960s, he was very much caught up in American liberalism and the progressive movement which sees government as the best or perhaps sole arbiter of fairness and justice. However, he later came to see the movement as deeply flawed. His loss of faith in liberalism came as a result of watching the violence break out in Cambodia at the hands of the Pol Pot regime. What he witnessed, while certainly extreme in violence and savagery, was nonetheless rooted in modern liberalism.
Since that time he has been a champion of conservatism as the best hope of protecting constitutional freedoms and securing the nation. For the past 17 years, he has operated the conservative website World Net Daily (WND). Farah has now accused American universities as promoting liberalism which if unchecked will lead the nation to become like North Korea. Presumably, what Farah is referring to is the singularity of opinion afforded to North Koreans. They are taught what to think and how to behave. Those who step away from that are dealt with severely. It may seem extreme, but Farah has witnessed extreme in his lifetime.
It can be argued convincingly that liberals are extraordinary intolerant of conservatives often deriding them as being homophobic, racists, misogynist, and provincial. In a commentary he recently posted, he claims that much of what we see in the political correct movement has to deal with thought control. These are tactics employed by murderous regimes such as the Nazis, Pol Pot, and the North Koreans.
