Wealthy real estate investor Donald Trump has some unkind words about the gait President Obama uses when he leaves Air Force 1. In short, the famous investor and reality TV host of the show “Celebrity Apprentice” does not like how Obama ditty-bops down the stairs. In Trump’s own words, he disapproves of Obama’s bobbing, jumping, and hopping down the stairs. He views the behavior as not presidential.
Perhaps, he has a point. However, there is no law which requires the president “act” like something he is not. In reality, his ditty-bopping may be cultural, but has no bearing on his ability to rule. It is true that all prior presidents have had a certain germane swagger or stride as they walk be they President George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Jimmy Carter. However, the presidential swagger does not a president make. If that were true Carter would have been a phenomenally good president.
Trump made his comments via Twitter and the response has been generally negative. Some viewed his comments as unnecessary and irrelevant. Others viewed it is as proverbially throwing stones from a glass house because of Trump’s obvious comb-over. Truth be told, the tweet is not one of Trumps more sagely comments.
The reality is that if anything is unpresidential, it ought to be the promise to tens of millions of voters that their health insurance and physician preferences would be protected when the president and his party knew the opposite was true when he made the to the American people.
