The political Left is trying to find solace in the upcoming electoral disaster the Democrat party faces in November. The GOP is expected to pick up additional seats in the House of Representatives, governorships, and six or more senate seats to wrest control of the upper chamber from the Democrats. It would mark the first time the GOP controlled of the senate since 2007. What is the Democrat party finding solace in? A report that shows the public is sour on the GOP.
The trouble is that the public has not viewed congress favorably for years. Quite honestly, it has not mattered because when the individuals pull the voting booth lever in favor of one candidate over another, the vote has little to do with their perception of the party at the national level.
The public had a very low view of the GOP in 2012 and reelected the party to control the House once again. It might matter if the public was bullish on the GOP and polls then showed a dramatic turn around, but that is not the case.
The Washington Post promoted a poll which showed that the Democrats now hold a 51% likelihood of holding on to the Senate in November. However, that poll is heavily weighted using historical averages as opposed to current polling.
The fact is that over the summer, public opinion turned against Obama on the subject of immigration so that the punted executive action on amnesty until after the election. That was not the result of polls favoring his party.
