On a plot of land in Kyloe, Northumberland, the St. Nicholas Church lay abandoned. The church, erected in the late 1700s, sat decrepit, complete with headstones. All of that changed when a couple purchased the property and turned it into something beautiful.

The couple invested a great deal of time and money into renovating the church. While it was not restored into a building for worship, the couple attempted to restore the much of the building to its former glory. The original seats were refinished. The pair replaced the stained glass windows with new, allowing the building to be bathed in a colorful rainbow of reflection as rays of sunlight pass through the color-stained windows.

The church-turned-homestead rests on approximately one acre of land. The altar area become the bedroom, adorned with eight stained glass windows. The homestead features a large open living room area, four bedrooms, and a guest suite. The home features high, vault-like ceilings and is heated by six Victorian style radiators. In addition, the home sports two kitchens, two reception areas, and a large garden.

The couple chose to restore a great deal of the church’s original interior wood work and stonework, offering their new home a unique and historical element.
