People would be amazed at the amount of data compiled by various government agencies which is readily available online. Those interested in knowing exactly what the impact of Medicare is on the federal budget need only pull up the Medicare Trustees Report produced annually. It would reveal the program runs a substantial deficit which annually requires a taxpayer bailout well over $200 billion and growing. However, no politician speaks of the program in those terms.
Likewise, the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) publishes data regarding hundreds of occupations and their median incomes. It’s the sort of information many people might find useful in wanting to know if they are being fairly compensated by their evil Human Resources departments. Perhaps even a few forward-thinking college students might take a look at the chart to see what professions pay the best and use that information in the selection of their degree program.
With that in mind, one Reddit user had done a lot of the leg work for people by compiling a graphic chart of 820 job occupations and their average income all using data from the BLS. Obviously, medical professionals top the list with anesthesiologists earning an average $235,000 per year.
As one might imagine, burger flippers find themselves at the bottom of the barrel taking in a paltry $19,000 per year. The list is a wonderful illustration of the power of education as Mitt Romney apt described during his 2012 presidential run when he stated a college education will double a person’s lifetime income to over $2,000,000.
